Did you know that in the Boom Studios comics, the arrival of Lord Zedd is quickly followed by his hiring of a mercenary named Dayne?
His introduction to the lore is interesting because he is one of the few Sirians that we have seen so far in the Power Rangers universe—the most notable, of course, being Anubis "Doggie" Kruger: the Shadow Ranger and the commander of Space Patrol Delta.
This Sirian is no hero, however, but rather a hired gun with skills that match his high price tag.
Dayne accepts Zedd’s contract to destroy the Rangers, so he sits down and watches them fight one of Zedd’s monsters of the week, taking notes, but generally being unimpressed. After reviewing all of the footage of the Rangers’ victories, he strikes!
Dayne’s first target is Kimberly and succeeds in breaking her thumb with one blow.
The Sirian blinds Rocky and uses Adam’s fear of bees against him.
He then breaks through the Rangers’ tactical formation and teleports Tommy away for a one-on-one fight.
While Tommy is a formidable fighter, he was still getting used to wielding the new White Ranger powers, so he ends up defeated and seriously wounded.
Surprisingly, Dayne leaves after this, but he reveals to Lord Zedd his plan: break the Rangers’ spirits so thoroughly that they give up on themselves and betray Zordon.
He is the biggest test the Power Rangers have faced thus far!
