In the Boom Studio comics, Rita Repulsa decides to retrieve the Dragon Power Coin that she stashed away as a secret weapon. To that end, she personally descends upon Earth to a specific place in New York where the astral planes converge.
There, she summons a portal while her henchmen and monsters keep the Rangers at bay. The dimensional doorway is completed and Rita steps through, but the pull of the gateway drags in both Trini and Jason.
They find themselves on an alien planet and discover that they have swapped Ranger colors and powers! In addition, they can hear each other’s thoughts, which leads to the revelation that Trini has a crush on Jason and that Jason’s father is sick.
Eventually, the pair find Rita and call in reinforcements from the rest of the team to find out exactly what the space witch is up to. The arriving Rangers also find themselves palette-swapped, and proceed to take some joy in learning about each other’s powers.
They are able to form the Power Blaster and take out the alien fighting with Rita, but the latter is able to teleport away with her bounty.
Later, Trini and Jason are relieved to finally be home, but the Yellow Ranger is unsettled by the presence of the Dragon Power Coin she felt on Rita. Something dangerous is coming!
