Did you know that there was more lore to the 2017 Power Rangers movie?
The reboot of Power Rangers also saw the release of a follow-up comic book called Aftershock.
It picks up one week after the end of the movie: after Rita was backhanded into space, Goldar crumbles and its residual magic seeps deep into the earth.
The enchanted gold dust reanimates the fallen Putty Patrollers, making them stronger than before.
As a result, Zordon tasks the Rangers with stopping Rita’s rampaging soldiers and helping the townspeople they terrorize.
The Power Rangers grapple with their newfound responsibilities, while Zordon warns Jason that new threats would inevitably appear in response to the Rangers’ existence.
Jason worries about his leadership abilities, but comes clean to the rest of the Rangers about his insecurities, paving a way forward.
Later, Zordon’s words prove to be prophecy, as two teenage siblings happen across a piece of Goldar’s remains.
It bonds with the brother, and its drive to fight the Rangers amplifies his anger towards his life in Angel Grove after his family lost their father in the same mining accident that killed Billy’s dad.
The siblings attack the city, seek out another piece of Goldar, and this time the sister melds with the magical putty.
With their new abilities, the pair combine with metal and earth, becoming a giant monster! They set out to destroy Angel Grove: a place that has held nothing but pain and trauma for them.
