5 Minute Read
One of the best parts about Power Rangers is the Zords! As a kid, anything with giant robots is a good time, but imagine if said giant robots transformed AND combined together? Magical! If you grew up with Power Rangers, you know all about the Megazords from each television series.
In the Boom Studios comics, the story writers play up the fact that Zords are infinitely adaptable, leading to some really crazy combinations. Here are 10 Megazords that you may have never heard about!
Mega Gravezord
The Gravezord is a machine built for the Ranger Slayer out of pieces of destroyed Thunderzords. When the Ranger Slayer is released from the spell holding her mind captive, she sends the Gravezord to assist the Rangers in battle.
In that fight, the two Zords combine, forming the Mega Gravezord. The result is a fearsome warrior with a deadly claw attack and a giant Power Axe in gun mode!
Turtle Megazord
Just as in the tv series, the Ninja Turtles meet the Power Rangers in the comics.
In that mini-series, the Turtles actually become Rangers themselves and pilot the Megazord!
The teens from Angel Grove end up driving a giant version of Metalhead, and of course, the two Zords join up and form the Turtle Megazord.
White Tiger Dragonzord
After the events of Shattered Grid, Grace Sterling restores the Green Ranger powers using a Chaos Dagger that she took from the Psycho Green Ranger.
The new Green Ranger ends up fighting alongside Tommy, who is now the White Ranger, and the duo summon and combine their Zords to form the White Tiger Dragonzord!
One notable attack gained from this is the Tiger Tail Strike, which utilizes the Dragonzord’s drill tail on the Megazord’s left arm.
Mega Terrorzord
There have been a few evil Ranger teams in TV history. The comics had their own take on Lord Zedd’s Rangers, when he empowers Rita’s henchmen to become Dark Rangers.
This set of Dark Rangers are quite powerful, and come with their own set of animalistic Terrorzords. When they combine, they form the Mega Terrorzord, and are only defeated when the Dark Rangers’ power source is destroyed!
Mega Megazord
It has a pretty silly name, but the premise of this mashup Zord is anything but!
During the final major battle in the Shattered Grid event, as Serpentera is destroying Megazords and killing Rangers left and right, the rest of our heroes desperately search for a response.
The Time Force Pink Ranger is able to call up data from her archives, and is able to help assemble a Megazord from the Zords that are left over.
Solar Megazord
In the Beyond the Grid arc, stranded Rangers from various teams end up in a dimension that is devoid of Morphin Grid energy.
An encounter with a wielder of the artifact called Solarix ends up with a number of them becoming the new Solar Rangers for a time, and with those new powers came their own Solar Zords.
The Solar Megazord is created when the Solar Zords combine and is used to defeat the villain of the arc: a rogue Morphin Master!
Ultra Omegazord
In the comics, Jason, Zack, and Trini left the Power Rangers not for a Peace Summit, but to travel the stars as the Omega Rangers.
As their powers are based in the concept of alchemical elements like fire and air, their Zords reflect an otherworldly design! In the climax of the war against the Empyreals, the Omegazords finally form the Ultra Omegazord.
Zerrzord
I am not sure who named this one, but the Zerrzord is another kit-bashed Zord from the Coinless universe!
When the Ranger Slayer returns home after Shattered Grid, she finds that the survivors have to deal with a ghost Rita Repulsa and her undead army.
Without the Gravezord, the only thing they have left to fight a zombie Goldar is the Zerrzord, a techno-organic mech made up of the deceased body of Lord Zedd and pieces of the Dragonzord!
Typhonis
In a comics series set after Kimberly’s departure from the Power Rangers, circumstances bring her back into the fight.
Her subsequent encounter with Goldar results in the creation of Typhonis, a Zord created from the pieces of the Thunderzords, as well as Goldar’s own Warzord, Cyclopsis!
Later, she pilots the Megazord with her All-New Ranger team, and helps the Power Rangers fight off the monstrous Serpentera.
Dragon Turtlezord
The second Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers crossover features other bananas creations, but in the spirit of this blog, we will talk about the Dragon Turtlezord.
In this series, Shredder ends up fighting on the side of our heroes, and regains his access to the Green Ranger powers. Then, in the final battle against Rita Repulsa and Krang, the Dragonzord and Metalhead combine to create the Dragon Turtlezord!
So there you have ten Megazords that you may not have heard about. Let me know in the comments which of them is your favorite!
